Annie Andrews' Chances of Beating Darline Graham in South Carolina

Darline Graham secured the Republican nomination in South Carolina's Senate race following the death of incumbent U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who will now face off against Democrat Annie Andrews in the November general election. Graham, who was appointed by Republican Governor Henry McMaster, won the nomination with roughly 52 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, defeating Representative Ralph Norman.

Andrews, the Democratic nominee, secured her party's nomination in June. South Carolina has historically been a Republican stronghold, having voted for the party in six out of the last seven presidential elections. However, Democrats believe this year's race could become more competitive due to President Trump's declining approval ratings and economic concerns.

Andrews has expressed optimism about her campaign's fundraising efforts and the potential for flipping the seat this year. While polling has been limited due to Graham's death, internal polls released by both campaigns suggest a tight race. However, prediction markets give Republicans a significant advantage, with Republican candidates having about an 88 percent chance of winning the seat according to Kalshi and Polymarket.

Despite Democrats' efforts to make South Carolina competitive, the state has remained reliably Republican over the past few decades, with the last Democratic senator elected in 1998.
