Alabama-Coushatta opens temporary Naskila Casino as permanent resort takes shape nearby

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has officially opened Naskila Casino Leggett, marking the start of a larger casino resort development on the same property. Tribal members celebrated the opening with a Membership Opening Day ceremony on August 24, with the casino welcoming visitors the following day.

Operating around the clock, Naskila Casino Leggett houses 300 electronic gaming machines and a dining facility. According to local reports, the establishment has created approximately 100 new jobs in the area. This development comes after years of legal battles, as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that Texas could not prohibit electronic bingo on tribal land, leading to the abandonment of Texas' lawsuit against the Tribe.

Construction for the permanent Naskila Casino Resort, located nearby, began in June, with plans for a 685,000 square foot facility including about 3,400 electronic bingo machines, a 366-room hotel, restaurants, bars, lounges, a resort-style pool complex, and extensive conference and event spaces. The grand ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, and the resort's opening is anticipated in late 2028.

This development reflects the tribe's broader economic expansion in East Texas, with an estimated $251.7 million annual contribution from Naskila Casino Leggett and its predecessor. The Leggett property has been held in trust since 2001, and tribal membership approved the location in September 2025, in contrast with another ongoing tribal gaming dispute in California.
