Al Raha Beach Resort and Spa review: Time-tested quality favoured by UAE locals

Pulling up to Raha Beach Hotel on a typically quiet August afternoon, I expected something special. The friendly valets expertly guided my car into a line waiting for valet parking. Later, I inquired with the concierge about any events, and he grinned, telling me it was a Friday. Since opening in 2005, this resort has proven popular with families.

The low-lying complex features mansion-style villas and a 900-meter private beach, nestled along the coast of Al Raha Creek. It sits just a 15-minute drive from Yas Island and the Zayed International Airport, with the city center only a 25-minute drive away.

A beautiful lobby greets visitors upon arrival, with deep mahogany and orange tones creating a warm atmosphere. The elegant fusion of Art Deco and Arabian style evokes a history beyond the hotel's 21-year existence. As my family and I check in, our young children quickly make friends with other guests, enjoying the plush seating available in the lobby. Throughout our stay, I noticed various unique touches, from colorful carpets to ornate mirror designs, all contributing to the hotel's cozy ambiance.

Upon entering our room, the Al Raha Suite, we were impressed by its size and luxurious features. Although not a dedicated family room, the staff promptly provided cots and beds for our young sons, ensuring ample space for play. The Sevilla family restaurant, located at the back of the hotel, offered a diverse menu catering to various dietary needs, including gluten-free and dairy-free options.

My husband enjoyed the herb-crusted lamb chops at the Mediterranean restaurant Azur, while I appreciated the thoughtful children's plates at the cafe, Cafe Mozart.

The hotel's facilities catered well to families, with a kids' club offering activities from 10 am to 7 pm and outdoor play areas, volleyball, and football courts when the weather permitted. The large gym and studio provided ample workout options, while the indoor squash courts added variety. The Signature Moroccan Hammam treatment at the hotel's Wellbeings Holistic Healing spa proved to be a highlight for my husband and me, providing the much-needed relaxation we craved.

The spa's commitment to accessibility, such as its hearing-impaired therapist and accessible rooms, was greatly appreciated. Additionally, the hotel's eco-friendly initiatives, like biodegradable amenities and vegan bath products, appealed to environmentally-conscious guests. Lastly, the convenient Al Raha Mall, located within the hotel grounds, proved incredibly useful for families needing everyday necessities.
