명지대, 미래 방산 이끌 ‘국방AI센터’ 개소… 산학협력 생태계 구축

On June 21st, Hongik University, led by President Im Yeon-su, inaugurated the "National Defense AI Center" in the Natural Campus, in collaboration with satellite imagery AI specialist SIA (led by CEO Taegyun Lee). The event brought together key stakeholders from Hongik University, defense and aerospace industries, and participating companies, who praised the center's launch and explored future collaboration directions.

The National Defense AI Center serves as a research and business platform, utilizing university research facilities, educational and research infrastructure, and advanced technologies and equipment from industry. By leveraging this foundation, Hongik University plans to enhance defense AI education and research, expand ties between related academic disciplines and the workforce, and solidify the connection between academia and industry.

With support from companies such as Nearlab, C-Sdronics, Parablo Airlines, Alice Group, and Ensm, the center now boasts a strong technological and personnel backbone. Hongik University has long operated programs in AI engineering, defense intelligence, and defense business, nurturing a diverse talent pool for the defense AI and industry collaboration sectors.

Through the National Defense AI Center, the university aims to connect its educational and research capabilities with the needs of the industry, providing students and researchers with real-world defense AI technology and a foundation for growth. Hongik University's President Im Yeon-su expressed hope that the center will evolve into a key hub for collaborative innovation in defense AI, with robust connections between education, research, technological development, and business.

The university also plans to further expand collaborations with defense and industry partners to continually strengthen the National Defense AI Center as a leading center for innovative AI projects in the defense sector.
