99 mm rain in 24 hours: Delhi records wettest day in over 2 years

Delhi experienced its wettest day in over two years on Tuesday, with the Safdarjung observatory recording 99.1 mm of rain in just 24 hours. This marked the highest rainfall at Safdarjung in any month since August 1, 2024, when 107.6 mm was recorded. The downpour was widespread, causing waterlogging in various parts of the city. Delhi University recorded the highest rainfall at 104 mm, followed by Ayanagar at 101.9 mm, Ridge at 100.4 mm, Lodhi Road at 98.3 mm, and Janakpuri at 76 mm.

Safdarjung's August rainfall total reached 354.1 mm, significantly above the long-period climatological mean of 226.8 mm for the month. With more than a month remaining in the monsoon season, Safdarjung's rainfall since June 1 has already surpassed the full June-September seasonal normal of 640.4 mm, recording 35% above normal.
