95 maut banjir kilat di utara Nepal

A flash flood in northern Nepal claimed at least 95 lives on Wednesday, with 484 people still missing, according to Prime Minister's Office reports from Xinhua. The fatalities included 391 foreign tourists and 93 Nepali citizens, according to the Nepal Tourism Board records. Among the missing tourists were 134 Indians, 47 Americans, 33 British, and 34 Australians.

The Bagmati Province police spokesman, Rajendra Prasad Dhamala, said that rescue teams had saved 88 individuals from the affected area. Prime Minister Balendra Shah convened an urgent Cabinet meeting to discuss search and rescue efforts and the distribution of aid to the victims. The Nepalese army, along with other rescue teams, is intensifying the search and rescue operation in the affected regions.

The worst damage was reported in Rasuwa district, where the flood engulfed several houses and damaged a market area, a hydroelectric project, a highway, and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile, authorities in the eastern Indian state of Bihar have raised their alert level on Wednesday due to the possibility of a sudden rise in water levels on the Gandak River following the flash flood in Nepal, according to officials. This precautionary measure was taken in anticipation of an imminent and rapid increase in river water levels.

Alerts were issued for six districts in the state – West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Muzaffarpur, and Vaishali – along with a heightened alert level for low-lying areas along the Gandak River system.
