384 tourists, including foreigners, out of contact after Nepal floods

KATHMANDU, Nepal - More than 380 tourists, primarily foreigners, have gone missing in Nepal following a devastating flood that swept through the border region with Tibet, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. The flood affected areas popular with travelers, including the starting point for the Langtang trek and sites used for Hindu pilgrimages to Kailash Mansarovar.

Images from the scene show floodwater inundating riverbanks, washing away houses, and exposing the top floor of a home sitting on muddy ground. Preliminary records reveal that 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals are among the 384 tourists reported missing. At least eight bodies have been recovered, but it remains uncertain if any of them are related to the uncontacted tourists.

Authorities are actively working to locate the travelers and have advised those living near the riverside to evacuate to higher ground.
