15,000 Hindi-Speaking Autorickshaw Drivers Receive Marathi Language Training Certificates

Around 15,000 Hindi-speaking autorickshaw drivers from North India have recently been awarded certificates for successfully completing Marathi language training, according to a report from Mumbai. The program, led by local MLA Prakash Surve, aimed to enhance communication between the drivers and passengers as well as authorities. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde distributed the certificates during a ceremony in Borivali on Wednesday. The state transport minister, Pratap Sarnaik, was also present.

The training focused on basic Marathi phrases and expressions used in everyday conversations and interactions with the public. Autorickshaw drivers frequently engage with passengers and authorities from diverse linguistic backgrounds, making the ability to communicate in Marathi crucial for smoother communication. The program's objective is to promote the use of Marathi in daily interactions among autorickshaw drivers and improve communication between drivers and passengers across Mumbai.

As Marathi remains a significant language for day-to-day public interaction in Maharashtra, the training program aligns with the ongoing emphasis on the language. Better familiarity with Marathi can assist autorickshaw drivers in communicating with passengers and handling routine transport-related matters and interactions with authorities. The distribution of certificates signifies the completion of the first batch of the training program for 15,000 Hindi-speaking autorickshaw drivers.
