The state budget deal approved in July includes the database, which aims to bring more transparency to subsidized housing that could affect thousands of Pennsylvanians. Over 9,700 units in the state will see affordability restrictions expire in the next five years, according to the National Housing Preservation Database.

Different agencies manage various programs, making it difficult to track properties where affordability requirements will expire. The database, which will be publicly available by the end of 2027, will include information on each property's location, when restrictions expire, and potential options for extension. Creating the database will not require additional funding, as the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency believes it can absorb the cost using current resources.
