World Championships bring little rankings joy for Malaysian shuttlers

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite mixed results at the recent World Championships in New Delhi, Malaysia's top shuttlers largely retained their rankings. Men's doubles duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah remained at world No. 4 and No. 5 respectively, despite Chia's close loss in the men's doubles final to China's Wang Chang-Liang Weikeng.

Meanwhile, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin held their No. 6 position after reaching the quarterfinals, while Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King stayed at No. 11 and No. 19. Pearly-Thinaah's early exit compared to their runner-up performance at last year's Worlds saw them retain fifth place. Only Malaysian men's singles player Justin Hoh and mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien climbed the rankings, moving from No. 46 and No. 43 to No. 45 and No. 40 respectively.

However, no other Malaysian shuttlers made significant progress, with most remaining at the same positions. The mixed doubles pairing of Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai kept their No. 11 ranking after reaching the last 16, while Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's world champions were unable to defend their title after their partner was ruled out due to injury.
