Pete Golding, Ole Miss' head coach, explained that they wanted to increase security measures for the playoff, and they were assisted by a current player's father who was an FBI agent. Despite the FBI sweep, no recording devices were found in the Ole Miss offices. The controversy surrounding Kiffin's exit was due to his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU before the College Football Playoff, even though the team had the opportunity to make a run at a national championship.
