Why Monsoon Session of Karnataka legislature ended 3 days in advance

The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka legislature came to an end three days early on Monday due to persistent disruptions by the Opposition BJP. The BJP insisted that Congress minister B Nagendra resign over his alleged involvement in the KMVSTDC scam. The Congress government, however, insisted the charges against Nagendra were unsubstantiated.

The CBI subsequently submitted a chargesheet against Nagendra, seeking the Governor's approval to prosecute him. The Karnataka legislature's two-week session had to be cut short due to regular interruptions. The Supplementary Finance Bill was passed, and the Legislative Council was adjourned sine die, meaning it was terminated without notice.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar accused the BJP of disrupting proceedings rather than following proper legislative procedures. Several key issues, including the Karnataka Regulation of Use of Government Premises and Public Property Bill and the lack of women ministers in the CM's cabinet, were not debated due to the early adjournment.
