Why Dolly Parton and husband Carl Dean never had kids

Dolly Parton and her husband Carl Dean, a country singer and songwriter, remained childless despite being married for nearly six decades. The couple, who married in 1966 and continued their relationship off the public radar, discussed having children early in their marriage but ultimately decided against it for various reasons. Parton herself believed that motherhood was not a part of her life's purpose and that her demanding career, which included recording music, touring, performing and building a business empire, would have been disrupted by having children.

She also felt that motherhood would have changed her priorities and made it difficult for her to maintain her career at the level required to build her success.
