Who is Emmanuel John Nchimbi, Tanzania’s vice president who has resigned?

On August 25, 2026, Tanzania's Vice-President Emmanuel John Nchimbi announced his resignation from office and retirement from active politics. Nchimbi had served as President Samia Suluhu Hassan's deputy since November 2025 and had held various ministerial positions over his more than three decades-long political career. Born in Mbeya in 1971, Nchimbi pursued his education in Dar es Salaam and Mbeya before earning a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Mzumbe University.
