Westside to host Lincoln County in pivotal week two matchup

Week two of Football Friday night brings an intriguing matchup between Lincoln County and Westside at the Battlefield this Friday. Westside, currently enjoying a 49-0 shutout over Josey, is eager to maintain their winning streak. Quarterback Kaleb LaCarter emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, "We did a good job on playing as a team, we have a young team, so I think it's going to be important this year that we can play as a team."

Lincoln County, on the other hand, has shown resilience with a statement 14-7 win over 6A Grovetown. Head coach Lee Chomskis highlighted the character of his players, saying, "Our kids, the ones that are in the captains' spots learning to learn and understand you have to serve to lead, it's a blessing when kids learn and understand that it's fruit for the future and it's what you hope."

The two teams have only met four times, with the Red Devils leading the series 3-1. Westside players are using this week as motivation, as defensive back Taveras Gresham explained, "The physicality, I love the competition. I like that it's a good opponent, coming into my house, I'm not going to let anybody come into my house, kick their feet up and eat my chips in my living room."

LaCarter added, "I feel like a lot of people have been doubting us as a team. They're obviously a really hype team, rightfully so, they went to state, they're a good team, not saying they're not. I just feel like we have the guys to win that game. It's just another big stage to come out here."

For Westside, the game holds personal significance, as head coach Lee Chomskis noted, "I'm home, Lincoln County is where I'm from, so they already know what's up. On the field, it's business at the end of the day, I still love them but still going to try and beat you." Lincoln County fans are known to travel well, as Chomskis pointed out, "Our community, I don't have to say anything.

They're ready and love Red Devil football, they're always excited about the team we put on the field." Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Westside High School.
