Vote for Courier & Press Athlete of the Week from August 17-22

In Southwestern Indiana this week, several high school athletes showcased exceptional individual performances. The Courier & Press is inviting readers to vote for their favorite Athlete of the Week through August 22.

Noteworthy performances include Harper Anderson of North girls soccer, who scored five goals in a 9-0 victory over Central. Landon Cason of Wood Memorial boys soccer added to his impressive record with a hat trick and an assist in a 6-1 win against North Knox.

Kate Edwards of Castle girls golf was the individual medalist at the BNL Invitational, finishing with a 3-over 75 at Otis Park. Edie Helfrich of Gibson Southern volleyball led her team with 113 digs and 23 assists during four matches.

Nathan Hollinden of Tell City boys cross country claimed the individual championship at the Pioneer Invitational with a time of 17:04.2. Adley Staples of Tecumseh volleyball dominated with 67 kills, 48 digs, and 51 assists across three victories.

Myana Fox of Harrison girls soccer scored six goals in wins over North Posey and Mount Vernon. Barr-Reeve boys tennis duo Kierson Lengacher and Grant Armes won every set in three matches, solidifying their undefeated status. Halle Recker of Jasper volleyball set a record with 90 assists and ten aces in three sweeps.

Henry Trapp of Castle boys tennis earned the top singles title and defended his SIAC Player of the Year award with three straight wins. Avery Slade of Memorial girls soccer added 10 goals and four assists to her team's victories. Lucas Jurado of Castle boys soccer contributed five goals and four assists in his team's wins.

Adelynn Snow of Gibson Southern volleyball provided 80 kills and 77 digs across four matches. Faith Voelkel of Memorial girls soccer made 17 saves in three victories. Lastly, Kylee Waninger of Heritage Hills girls cross country claimed the individual championship in the Pioneer Invitational with a time of 19:59.6.
