Volta Regional Security Council demands equitable teacher distribution

The Volta Regional Security Council (VRSC) has adopted a resolution to ensure equitable distribution of teachers in the region, addressing the disparity between urban schools that are overstaffed and remote communities that lack adequate teaching staff. During the first 2026 meeting of the VRSC in Ho, chaired by the Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, the council highlighted the need for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to facilitate teacher postings at the District Education offices to meet the requirements of remote areas rather than relying on postings from the Regional Education office.

This resolution comes in response to the poor performance of the region in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Mr Gunu, who also serves as the Chairman of the VRSC, emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for growth in the region and called on retired and experienced teachers to contribute their expertise to fill the vacancies in under-resourced classrooms. He expressed satisfaction with the current peace in the region and urged residents to continue maintaining peace and fostering the development of the area.

Speaking about the 2023 Akosombo and Kpong dam spillage, the Regional Minister announced that the government was preparing to compensate the victims and assured that the compensation packages would be provided before the end of the year. He also stated that the government was committed to advancing the region's progress through ongoing road construction projects under the "Big push" initiative, and encouraged residents to trust and cooperate with the government for the necessary development.
