Uzor Kalu names two major problems crippling Nigeria’s economy

Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has identified two major issues plaguing Nigeria's economy. Speaking in an interview on News Central Television, the lawmaker highlighted the soaring price of fuel and the depreciating value of the naira as the primary obstacles. Kalu argued that Nigeria cannot establish a sustainable economy solely reliant on oil exports while simultaneously importing essential goods.

He advocated for a shift towards domestic production in all sectors to ensure long-term stability and economic growth. "Two things are crippling this economy - the price of fuel and the price of the dollar," Kalu stated. He further criticized government officials for their reluctance to make sacrifices to fully comprehend the state of the economy.

Kalu acknowledged the young people's concerns, stating that everyone would question the continued state of the economy. He emphasized the need for productive production and urged the nation to start producing instead of merely relying on oil reserves. Kalu concluded that without production, no amount of oil wealth can solve Nigeria's economic woes.
