The last few witnesses in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial are set to testify

Tuesday marked the final testimonies in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial, as prosecutors sought to dispute claims that the mother had postpartum psychosis and was ordered by a voice to kill her three young children. Dr. Gregory Saathoff, a forensic psychiatrist at the University of Virginia, expressed skepticism over Clancy's account of hearing a voice on January 24, 2023, which he deemed unconvincing.

He noted the abrupt cessation of the voice upon the completion of the act, a phenomenon he has not witnessed before. Forensic psychologist Kirk Heilbrun also dismissed Clancy's claim of a command hallucination, concluding instead that she committed the murders to prevent her children's suffering. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington questioned Heilbrun's conclusions and highlighted Clancy's positive attributes, challenging the notion that she randomly killed her children.

Heilbrun maintained that Clancy retained awareness of the illegality of her actions, driven by a strong desire to die and spare her children the trauma of abandonment. Prosecutors argued that Clancy had meticulously planned the killings, using her husband's errands and dinner preparations to orchestrate the tragedy.
