Thai group gathers at Israeli Embassy over tourist behavior

BANGKOK — In a display of peaceful protest, a Thai activist group called Thai Mai Thon ("Thais Won’t Tolerate It") delivered a letter to the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok on August 24, urging Israeli tourists and residents to abide by Thailand's laws, customs, and culture. The group's leader, Tae Achiwa, made the delivery following a series of complaints from residents in popular tourist destinations, such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Pai.

The group reported receiving numerous allegations of intimidation, harassment, and disputes involving Israeli nationals, including conflicts related to businesses and properties. In response, the group emphasized that their intent was not to generalize about Israeli people but to investigate and prosecute any violations of Thai law through the proper legal channels.

Embassy staff did not accept the letter directly, instead instructing the group's representatives to leave it outside the embassy building. The representatives obliged, placing the document there as requested. Tae Achiwa, speaking to reporters, clarified that the group's action was peaceful and focused on addressing complaints from Thai residents, rather than the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Achiwa stated, "We came peacefully. I’m not here to call for 'Free Palestine.' Your war is your war. Today I'm here because Thai people are suffering from tourists who come into the country, and you are not urging your tourists to behave. That’s all." The group expressed their hope that Israeli visitors and residents would respect Thai laws and local communities, allowing authorities to handle any alleged offenses through established legal procedures.
