Tarae: The Unbound is an Eastern dark fantasy action RPG that has caught my attention recently. I admit that I have grown weary of the same repetitive enemies and environments in many ARPGs, but Tarae seems to offer a refreshing change. Developed by Boundary and published by Krafton, this game is set in a world that combines Eastern myth, folklore, and traditional aesthetics with darkness and brutality.

The game features enemies battling in Buddhist temples and player characters facing off against bosses with hauntingly distorted features inspired by East Asian monster illustrations.

What sets Tarae apart is its unique character class options. Players can choose from a variety of builds shaped by the balance and conflict of the Five Elements, the harmony of Yin and Yang, karma, and the cycle of reincarnation. Even within a single class, different choices lead to entirely different gameplay experiences. One character class includes an old man wielding a matchlock gun, who appears to have knowledge of historic firearms that most others lack. The rapid-fire gouts of firebomb explosives he fires are a testament to his unique skill set.

Although no release date has been announced yet, Tarae: The Unbound is still worth keeping an eye on. As the developer aims to offer a diverse range of buildcrafting systems, this game has the potential to offer something new and exciting to the ARPG genre.
