Stabiity AI raises $76M, with Warner and Sony investing

Stability AI, the London-based AI startup known for its Stable Diffusion model, has secured $76 million in a Series B funding round, according to a recent announcement. The new investors in the round include music industry giants Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group, along with gaming behemoth Electronic Arts, as well as AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures.

Existing backers Coatue, Greycroft, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Napster co-founder Sean Parker, who is a board member, and Titanic director James Cameron also participated in the funding.

The funds will be used to fuel the company's creative production and research initiatives. Stability AI, founded in 2019, has recently relocated its headquarters from London to Los Angeles, where it will focus on developing AI products for music, gaming, and entertainment industries. The company's CEO, Prem Akkaraju, stated that the funding round will position Stability AI for long-term success, providing not just capital but also expertise, credibility, and direct connections to artists.

This investment follows Stability AI's recent agreements with Warner and Electronic Arts to develop new AI models using their respective catalogs and intellectual property. Additionally, the company unveiled new AI models earlier this year, including one capable of generating professional-grade music lasting over six minutes. Akkaraju attributed the company's growth and success to the support and guidance provided by its investors.
