Saudi basketball team to face Japan in 2027 World Cup qualifiers

Saudi Arabia will face Japan in the fourth round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers, set to take place on Thursday at the King Abdullah Sports City Arena in Jeddah. This encounter is the beginning of the second round of Asian qualifiers, which falls within the fourth window. Following this match, Saudi Arabia will then travel to play against South Korea on August 31.

Currently, Argentina's Ricardo Daniel Maffei is steering the Saudi basketball team. As of now, Saudi Arabia is positioned sixth in Group F, holding onto nine points. This tally is identical to South Korea and China, all having recorded three wins and three losses in the first round. Conversely, Lebanon tops the group with 11 points from five victories and one loss, while Japan and Qatar both boast 10 points each.

The second round matches are particularly significant as all results from the first round carry over. Although Qatar has already qualified for the World Cup automatically due to hosting the event, their subsequent results will still influence the final ranking of qualified teams. According to the qualification procedure, the top three teams from each group, along with the fourth-placed team with the best record, will proceed to the World Cup finals alongside Qatar.
