Pune delivery boy kidnapped, hit with machete, robbed of Rs 90,000; 6 held

On August 21, a 24-year-old delivery executive in Pune was allegedly kidnapped, brutally attacked with a machete, and robbed of Rs 90,000. The Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested six men on Monday in connection with the armed robbery that took place near Gahunje Stadium. The assailants intercepted the deliveryman on his motorcycle after he had completed an order at the Lodha Society.

The suspects - Suraj Shankar Chalvadi, Dipak Dayanand Bhandge, Avinash Arun Wankhede, Prathamesh Kank, Viraj Hirve, and Isak Raju Kajapuram - allegedly forced the deliveryman into an autorickshaw and took him to an open ground near a crematorium in Mamurdi, about two kilometres away. The suspects struck the deliveryman's head with the blunt side of a large machete, leaving him bleeding on the ground before fleeing with the cash.

The deliveryman has since been hospitalized. The police seized property worth Rs 1.8 lakh, including the autorickshaw and a mobile phone, from the accused. However, the cash remains unrecovered. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rohidas Pawar stated that the accused are known offenders with a history of robbery and theft. The police utilized CCTV footage, technical data analysis, and informer information to identify the suspects.

The accused have been booked for robbery, wrongful confinement, and common intention, along with sections of the Arms Act.
