PTI protest over alleged violation of SC order on Imran's hospital transfer disrupts Senate business

On Monday, the PTI senators walked out of the Senate following an opposition leader's denial to speak on the health of party founder Imran Khan. The drama unfolded shortly after proceedings commenced when Raja Nasir Abbas, the opposition leader, attempted to raise the health concerns of the incarcerated leader while PTI Parliamentary Leader, Barrister Ali Zafar, moved a resolution concerning the former prime minister's treatment.

The deputy chairman refused to grant approval to either move, citing that the matter was sub judice. This prompted the PTI members to stand up and raise slogans. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and the deputy chairman opposed the introduction of the resolution, arguing that the matter was already under judicial review and that the PTI had filed a contempt petition.

Despite the Senate Secretariat's lack of prior notification, the opposition leader was once again denied permission to speak, leading to further protest from the PTI senators. During the course of the proceedings, Senator Abdul Qadir moved a bill proposing amendments to the Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) Act, 1974.

Despite the opposition's attempts to disrupt the proceedings, the deputy chairman assured the opposition that they would be given the opportunity to speak, but urged them to permit the House to function as per its rules. The PTI members refused, leading to their exit from the Senate, resulting in a lack of quorum. The Senate proceedings were subsequently adjourned until 11am on Tuesday.
