Prisoner dies after alleged beating by three fellow inmates at Marang prison

A 38-year-old prisoner at Marang Prison died after being beaten by three other inmates over an old debt dispute, according to Marang police chief Superintendent Sofian Redzuan. The victim was taken to the Merchang health clinic for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was subsequently transferred to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu for a post-mortem examination.

The autopsy results confirmed that the cause of death was a ruptured spleen caused by blunt force trauma, likely from punches or kicks. Sofian revealed that three inmates aged 21, 35, and 35 were identified as the suspects responsible for the attack. Initial investigations suggested that the incident arose from an old debt and the suspects' resentment towards the victim.

The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which governs murder. The suspects face potential penalties including the death penalty or a prison sentence of 30 to 40 years, with a mandatory minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan.
