Prime Minister urges Muslims to reflect Prophet’s values, not limit Maulidur Rasul to celebrations

Serdang, August 25 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the observance of Maulidur Rasul should not be restricted to celebrations or processions, but rather should be embodied through the practice of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) teachings as a beacon of mercy and guidance for all humanity. He asserted that the Maulidur Rasul celebration should inspire Muslims with a renewed sense of purpose, awareness, and enlightenment, asserting that the real significance lies in the application of Islamic principles.

"In the context of understanding Islam, the challenge lies in its practice and how we perceive it," he stated, "like the month of independence, it is not about the celebration, festivities, or procession, but what matters most is upholding the commands of Allah SWT." In his address at the national-level Maulidur Rasul 1448/2026 celebration, Anwar highlighted the need for Muslims to internalize Islamic values and serve as role models not just for fellow Muslims, but also for all Malaysians and the global community.

The concept of rahmatan lil 'alamin (mercy to all creation) should translate into the creation of a society built on core values such as goodness, respect, justice, while rejecting wrongdoing, social ills, arrogance, racism, oppression, corruption, and abuse of power. Anwar stressed that the current approach to dakwah (Islamic outreach) requires improvement, particularly in ensuring that religious messages foster understanding and acceptance, in contrast to the exemplary behavior demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He challenged all present to enhance these efforts, asking "How can we improve?" as a way forward.
