Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, shared insights about his career journey on social media. He disclosed that he began his professional life in a position he was not qualified for, and that his success has been driven by the opportunities others have given him. Elumelu emphasized that while luck played a role in his journey, it should not be the sole determining factor for African talent.

The businessman also addressed Africa's position in the global artificial intelligence race. He revealed that the continent accounts for less than one percent of the world's AI computing capacity and about three percent of its AI talent. Elumelu attributed the lack of progress to a lack of electricity, stating that Africa must urgently address its electricity challenges to seize the opportunities presented by the digital economy.

He identified securing adequate electricity generation and computing capacity as a crucial part of Africa's AI race.

Elumelu concluded his post with some advice for the youth in the room. He urged them to start their careers before they are fully qualified, echoing his own experience. He also called on investors and partners to support the growth of young African businesses, highlighting the Tony Elumelu Foundation's seed-capital program. The foundation, according to Elumelu, has proven that young African entrepreneurs are investible, and now urges investors to co-invest with them to help these businesses scale.
