Perm oil refinery stops after Ukrainian drone strike

The Perm oil refinery, Russia's seventh-largest by crude processing capacity, ceased operations following a Ukrainian drone strike on August 21, according to Reuters on August 24. Two sources familiar with the incident informed Reuters that the refinery's primary CDU-4 unit, responsible for almost 40% of the facility's capacity and capable of processing 14,000 metric tons of crude oil daily, was shut down on August 21.

Preliminary estimates suggest that repairs could take one to two weeks. Another major processing unit, CDU-5, which makes up 34% of the refinery's capacity, has been out of service since a July 29 attack. The refinery features two additional crude distillation units, CDU-1 and CDU-2, each accounting for 14% of its capacity. Lukoil, the entity operating the facility, declined to provide a comment to Reuters.

Situated over 1,600 kilometers away from Ukraine's border, Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez is one of Russia's largest oil refineries, producing gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and lubricants, and serves as a crucial industrial facility in Russia's Perm Oblast.
