Oman and Iran to continue technical talks on Strait of Hormuz management

Oman and Iran have committed to continuing technical discussions on managing the Strait of Hormuz, underlining respect for the sovereignty of coastal nations. The two countries released a joint statement outlining their intention to persist with technical negotiations. This statement underlined the necessity to honor the sovereign rights of coastal states and underscored the significance of engaging in joint talks with other regional nations along the Gulf waters.

The statement further revealed that technical talks are in progress to establish a system for sharing information and managing navigation, and to reach an agreement on a long-term shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed interim framework encompasses the implementation of a joint project aimed at clearing the strait of mines.

Additionally, the framework proposes creating a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, providing a practical and actionable foundation for managing the waterway.
