Ohio sophomore wins AI leadership award for nonprofit helping seniors with tech

Hannah Joseph, a 19-year-old sophomore at Indian Hill High School in Ohio, has been honored with the 2026 AI Next Generation Award. She achieved this recognition after presenting her nonprofit organization, Seniors Go Digital, at Cincy AI Week. This award showcases her exceptional leadership and dedication to empowering older adults through technology.

Seniors Go Digital, launched in June 2025, has already provided hundreds of senior citizens with essential skills in using smartphones, navigating the internet safely, and even understanding fundamental AI tools, thanks to the support of more than 20 student volunteers.

Joseph's journey to this prestigious recognition began when she participated in Cincy AI Week through Indian Hill Experienceships, a platform that offers students real-world learning experiences. This opportunity was made possible by a partnership between Indian Hill High School and Cincinnati AI Catalyst, a group dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence.

Although she was one of hundreds of professionals at the event, Joseph made it her mission to actively engage with attendees, ask insightful questions, and meet with speakers. Her confidence and initiative stood out, even amidst the sea of experienced professionals.

One of the most significant lessons Joseph took away from the experience was that age should never be a barrier to taking initiative. She emphasized that while the event was enlightening and provided her with a wealth of knowledge about AI, her greatest takeaway was that anyone, regardless of their age, can make a difference. This perspective was clearly demonstrated during her pitch for Seniors Go Digital, which led to her being considered for the Cincinnati AI Leadership Awards.

Notably, Joseph made history by becoming the first teenager ever honored with this prestigious award.
