Obos nedbemanner: Kutter rundt 200 ansatte

Thomas Skjennald, Kommunikasjonssjef for Obos, explained to E24 that the company has been working on a cost-cutting program over time, as the market and profitability of the company have been challenging. They began discussing the issue with employees in April and have since been focusing on finding a billion kroner in profitability improvements. On Monday, they held a company-wide meeting to inform employees about the status update, which includes a reduction in the number of staff.

Skjennald stated that they expect to have around 200 fewer employees by the end of 2027. Obos experienced a weak year in 2025, with operating revenues falling to 14 billion kroner from 19 billion. The net result before taxes dropped to 372 million kroner from 1.7 billion. The company will start the process in the autumn, focusing on consolidation functions such as IT, marketing, communication, and similar areas.

Afterwards, reductions will be implemented across all business areas, including housing development and administration.

The aim is to increase profitability, capture market share, and become more profitable while simultaneously cutting costs, according to Skjennald. He mentioned that employees have known about this for nearly half a year, so it was no surprise that there were some layoffs. However, reactions have been mixed. Skjennald noted that while it is a significant number of people being affected, there is always a diverse range of responses.
