New Brunswick won’t stop supplying power to Maine at this point, premier says

New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt stated that Canada’s ongoing trade dispute with the United States has not yet reached the stage where her province would cease providing electrical power to Maine. Holt emphasized that disconnecting the electricity supply to communities that have long been friends and neighbors to New Brunswick would be an extremely serious step.

Her remarks came during a press conference, as Ontario Premier Doug Ford had previously hinted at the possibility of halting power exports to the U.S. entirely. The Liberal premier also mentioned the need to reassess the provincial-federal $13.7-million tariff relief fund in the upcoming budget due to the escalating U.S. levies. The federal government is anticipated to unveil its counter-tariff plan in the near future.
