NDC Upper West Youth & TEIN Retreat: Saankara declares national bid as party stalwarts demand equity

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper West Regional Youth Wing and the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) convened their 2026 regional retreat at the Grand View Hotel in Wa. The event aimed to emphasize party unity, issue-based campaigning, and transparent job distribution, under the theme "Sustaining the Gains: Empowering the Youth for the Future".

Upper West Regional Youth Organiser, Basiera Saankara, declared his intention to contest for the position of NDC National Youth Organiser. Saankara, who has dedicated twenty years to party service, highlighted his extensive experience from serving as an assembly member to his current role. He urged delegates to support his vision for a resource-empowered "Green Army".

Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuing called on delegates to support home-grown candidates for national executive positions. He specifically supported Basiera Saankara for the National Youth Organiser role and Mutiu-Rahman for the National Vice Chairman position. Puozuing warned against character assassination and internal disputes as party elections approach, stating that debates should focus on ideas rather than personal attacks.

Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Dr. Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare, spoke on behalf of the Upper West Parliamentary Caucus. He emphasized that youth empowerment must translate into equitable economic opportunities and transparent employment distribution. Sandaare invoked the Dagaare saying "Ka di yɔŋ, Kpi yɔŋ la" (When you eat alone, you die alone) to caution against the concentration of opportunities.
