NCIS: Origins: Adam Campbell's Young Ducky Will Return In Season 3 — What Brings The Medical Examiner Back?

NCIS: Origins fans will be pleased to know that Young Ducky, played by Adam Campbell, will return in Season 3. This was confirmed by showrunner David J. North after Mariel Molino, a star of NCIS: Origins, posted a video of the beloved medical examiner on set. North expressed his excitement about Young Ducky's return, stating that it will help fans understand how the close bond between Gibbs and Ducky came to be on NCIS.

Although Campbell only appeared in two episodes of Season 2, his storyline was not conclusive, leaving room for a potential return. North cryptically hinted at the reason for Young Ducky's return in Season 3, saying, "Let's just say he comes into a case this year in a way that he hasn't in his previous two episodes... he sort of just ends up popping up."

In Season 2, Young Ducky made his debut as a medical examiner liaison from D.C. headquarters, arriving in Pendleton to evaluate the need for an in-house medical examiner. Initially skeptical, the NCIS team gradually warmed up to Ducky, who helped Lala come to terms with her brain injury, treated Frank's physical and emotional wounds, and gifted Gibbs a ship in a bottle, sparking his childhood passion for boat-building.

Young Ducky returned later that season to help prove Dr. Tango's innocence after he was arrested for stealing human remains from a national park.
