NBA presents award to VeryDarkMan at annual conference

The Nigerian Bar Association honored social media influencer VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Otse, at its 2026 Annual General Conference taking place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Otse was recognized for sharing his firsthand experiences on issues like insecurity and the judiciary during a panel discussion at the conference.

NBA officials appreciated his presence and the insights he provided, cautioning, "When you are attacked, don’t kill. Report to the police." Otse had previously clarified that he was invited to the conference to share his personal experiences, not to lecture on legal matters. During his presentation, he voiced his concerns about the lack of media coverage on killings and emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents to the authorities.

Otse also shared his firsthand account of the June 13, 2025, violent attack in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where over 200 people were killed and property worth millions was destroyed. The attack, which involved a retaliation for the killing of a Fulani boy, was the subject of a current legal case. His attendance at the NBA conference has drawn significant public interest, with Otse noting that he was invited based on his advocacy for addressing insecurity rather than his legal expertise.
