‘My husband has died!’: Himani Shivpuri recalls getting angry at a fanboying cop

In an interview with Nation One, actress Himani Shivpuri shared her recollections of a personal tragedy that prevented her from participating in the climax of the iconic 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The loss of her husband, Gyan Shivpuri, had left her overwhelmed and in a state of shock and responsibility. Himani's brother had to step in to help with the funeral arrangements, as she was unfamiliar with Mumbai's procedures.

During the postmortem process, Himani had to visit a police station, where she encountered a fan of her villainous role in the popular show Humrahi. Despite her anger at the cop, she eventually calmed down, and the film's production team understood her situation and allowed her to skip the climax. The DDLJ climax, featuring an ensemble cast, remains a memorable and emotionally charged sequence in the history of Indian cinema.
