Mumbai: Special CBI Court Rejects Ashalatha Shetty’s Discharge Plea In Disproportionate Assets Case

Mumbai, August 25, 2026 - The special CBI court has dismissed Ashalatha Shetty's plea for discharge in a disproportionate assets case. The court found that she had acquired properties worth over Rs 88 lakhs, which is disproportionate to her income. The charge-sheet alleges she amassed disproportionate properties totaling approximately Rs 2.63 crores.

Both husband and wife, who are public servants, purchased the properties in their joint names using funds transferred from their accounts. While Ashalatha's income was around Rs 48 lakhs, she purchased properties exceeding Rs 88 lakhs. The court noted that both accused purchased three flats at varying locations, and despite being public servants, they failed to inform their banks/department about the purchases.
