According to the UDISE+ 2025-26 data, Madhya Pradesh enrolls 56,62,228 students from Class 1 to 8 in government schools. Of these, 34,36,341 students are in Classes 1 to 5 while 22,25,887 are in Classes 6 to 8. The department had earlier floated a tender worth Rs 350 crore for uniform procurement in June, but the Madhya Pradesh High Court stayed the tender process.
The department had experimented with various models for uniform distribution since 2018, including cash assistance, direct uniform distribution, and distribution through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). However, issues of incorrect sizes, irregularities, and poor fabric quality led to a return to DBT in 2024-25, where 54 lakh students received uniform assistance directly in their bank accounts.
