Miti to drive low-altitude economy development with unmanned valley ecosystem project

The Malaysian government is set to launch the Unmanned Valley Ecosystem pilot project, aimed at fostering growth in the low-altitude economy (LAE). This initiative, under the 13th Malaysia Plan, seeks to utilize technologies such as drones, air taxis, and advanced air mobility systems to conduct economic activities and public services within a low-altitude airspace ecosystem.

Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin revealed that the project will be executed at universities, a location he believes will attract young individuals who will ultimately be the primary users of this technology. Sim also mentioned that the government, through the National Aerospace Industry Corporation of Malaysia, is planning to establish an unmanned valley for testing various flight operations, including the implementation of a vertiport system.

However, the ministry is open to considering other suitable locations for the pilot project. Safety remains a critical concern for the successful implementation of the project, and the Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, indicated that the LAE guidelines, which will provide a regulatory, operational, and governance framework, are anticipated to be released by the end of the year.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia is currently developing these guidelines, with an expected announcement at the Asian Transport Expo 2026.
