Matlala returns to Madlanga Commission’s hot seat

Former business leader Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala returned to the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday morning, facing questions over alleged omissions in his supplementary affidavit. Among the issues he must address is his refusal to answer certain inquiries, invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This stance has led him to decline detailed questioning regarding interactions with suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, particularly concerning a Department of Public Works lease dispute.

Matlala has testified to having met Sibiya on multiple occasions, confirming they met three or four times to discuss the lease dispute. Additionally, he affirmed attending an engagement party for one of Sibiya's children. However, he was unwilling to disclose the full extent of their relationship, stating that the matter is currently under investigation and that responding to some questions could potentially incriminate him. Matlala also refrained from commenting on allegations of benefits allegedly provided to Sibiya.
