Mariners’ Colt Emerson to have season-ending wrist surgery and Bryan Woo will make his next start

Seattle Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson will undergo season-ending surgery on Wednesday to address a partially dislocated tendon in his left wrist. General manager Justin Hollander revealed this news on Monday, stating that Emerson is anticipated to recover in time for the upcoming season to begin. Emerson has been grappling with the injury since before spring training.

Signed to a $95 million, eight-year contract on April 1, the rookie made his major league debut in May, becoming the youngest Mariners player to do so since Félix Hernández. Despite initial success, Emerson faced challenges during the summer due to his injury and was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Tacoma and subsequently placed on the injured list.

Right-hander Bryan Woo, who experienced shoulder soreness during his last start, will take part in the club's plans. Hollander reported that Woo felt an unusual sensation last week but has not been able to replicate this since and is currently feeling better after a bullpen session on Sunday. The manager expressed confidence in Woo's well-being, noting that he feels great and is prepared to return to action on Wednesday.

Injury updates also pertained to shortstop J.P. Crawford, who is expected to join the team for warmups prior to Monday's game against Philadelphia. Hollander indicated that Crawford may be activated from the injured list on Tuesday. Additionally, infielder Brendan Donovan is still contending with concussion symptoms following a head injury sustained during a batting cage session on Sunday. Hollander stated that Donovan will remain on the seven-day injured list at least until the end of the weekend.
