Mahama to headline 7th Africa Sustainability Report Summit

Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama is set to be the star guest at the 7th Africa Sustainability Report Summit (AASuP), a three-day event taking place in Accra from September 24-26, 2026. Organized by Think Energy Media and the Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASuP), the summit will focus on the theme, "A Green Economy Transition in Africa: Building Capacity, Unlocking Potential."

Among the distinguished speakers is the Chairman of the National Democratic Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. The summit will gather policymakers, businesses, sustainability experts, academics, and other stakeholders to discuss practical ways to advance Africa's green economy transition and tackle obstacles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition to the summit, AASuP will host an Executive Masterclass on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) from November 9-14, 2026, at the Adomi Bridge View Hotel. This five-day programme is designed for executives, sustainability professionals, and organisations aiming to enhance their ESG practices and translate commitments into measurable results.

A major concern ahead of the summit is a significant skills and capacity gap in Ghana and Africa, which is hampering effective implementation of the SDGs. According to Humphrey Tetteh, president of AASuP, progress on only a few of the 17 SDGs has been made since their adoption in 2015. The shortage of professionals with the necessary technical expertise poses challenges in developing, managing, and implementing projects to meet international financiers' requirements.

To address this issue, the summit and masterclass will provide a platform to raise awareness about the capacity challenge and promote stronger action on sustainability and SDG implementation. The two initiatives represent efforts to close Africa's sustainability skills gap and strengthen the ability of institutions and professionals to turn sustainability commitments into practical and bankable projects.
