Logan Maart's journey in the award-winning film 'From Dust We Spin'

The documentary film "From Dust We Spin" has garnered attention for its portrayal of Mitchells Plain, South Africa, and the life of a young female spinner, Logan Maart. This award-winning production follows Maart, who at 21, is a passionate spinner navigating life's challenges, including bullying and attempted suicide, through her sport.

The film won Best Documentary at the Durban International Film Festival and is now eligible for Oscar consideration. It was showcased at kykNet Silverskermfees, held at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay. Directed by Julia Jansch, the story captures Maart's journey alongside her mentor, Mark Linden, and other notable figures like the late Justin Williams (Bemors) and Eddie Rasta.

Maart, who began spinning at 17, describes the sport as a source of peace and an escape from her problems. She emphasizes the positive impact of spinning on her life, stating, "I feel good watching the premiere; it was amazing and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I felt grateful and blessed being able to inspire other young women by bringing my story to light."

Maart started spinning at 17, having grown up in her father's pit crew since she was four years old. Her deep connection to spinning is evident as she finds solace and excitement in the activity, which helps her cope with life's challenges. Mark Linden, 46, whose legacy he is now passing on to younger generations, expresses his happiness in sharing his story with the world. He prays for the film to win an Oscar, a goal he firmly believes will be achieved.
