Lions run All Blacks close in thrilling Ellis Park shootout in final Greatest Rivalry midweek clash

The Lions faced off against the All Blacks in a thrilling match at Ellis Park, which turned out to be the final clash in Rugby's Greatest Rivalry. Despite their best efforts, the home team fell short, falling 41-35 to their touring opponents, but their performance against New Zealand's world-class defense showed that a brilliant season could be in store for them.

Following their impressive victory in the first Test of the series, the All Blacks continued their winning streak with a fifth tour win. However, the Lions' defense proved to be their downfall, as they lost the lead just once in the game. Nevertheless, they managed to score five exciting tries, with the standout try coming from captain Francke Horn off a powerful scrum that pushed the All Blacks back over their own try line.

Siba Mahase and Erich Cronje were instrumental in the Lions' attacking efforts, with Mahase scoring a try in the second half and Cronje intercepting a kick to score and seal the game with a superb conversion.
