'Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait' — CD Projekt Red confirms The Witcher 4 is 'targeting' a 2028 launch

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind The Witcher series, has officially announced that their upcoming game, The Witcher 4, is targeting a 2028 release date. Joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski stated that the game is the studio's most ambitious project to date, with over 500 developers currently working on its development.

During a recent video posted to social media ahead of Gamescom Opening Night Live, Nowakowski teased the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, which will be revealed at the event in 2027. He hinted that Songs of the Past may serve as a prelude to The Witcher 4, which is expected to star Ciri as the titular witcher.

Nowakowski confirmed that The Witcher 4 will feature a vast open world, intense gameplay, and a deep, impactful story. However, he clarified that the studio won't be showcasing the game at Gamescom 2026, stating, "Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait."

Fans have been eagerly anticipating The Witcher 4 since a technical demo was shared last year. While a PlayStation 5 physical edition is rumored, it remains unclear if the game will receive one, as Sony plans to end game disc production in January 2028.
