Lelaki ditahan disyaki bakar, curi al-Quran

Kuala Lumpur police have detained a 25-year-old man suspected of stealing Islamic holy books and burning the Qur'an, alongside a small fire incident involving some Qur'anic texts. Alzafny Ahmad, the state police chief, stated that the suspect was apprehended yesterday in a hotel on Jalan Abdul Rahman, Chow Kit. Initial investigations revealed that he possessed 16 copies of the Qur'an in his hotel room, which were believed to have been taken from nearby mosques and prayer halls without permission.

Further police inquiries at the suspect's home in Senawang uncovered 36 Qur'anic skins in his living area. On August 22, the Seremban IPD received a report of a minor fire incident involving several Qur'anic texts, and on the same day, a theft report emerged regarding a Qur'an stolen from a mosque in the Forest Height area of Seremban.

Alzafny explained that the discovery of 36 Qur'anic skins is believed to be connected to the reported burning of the holy book near a football field. The case is being investigated under Section 380/295 of the Criminal Procedure Code, with the suspect to be brought before the court for a bail application.
