Legend of the White Dragon Review

Legend of the White Dragon, a Kickstarter-funded movie, will hit theaters on August 28. The film, not a Power Rangers movie, does feature familiar faces like Jason David Frank, Jason Faunt, and Ciara Hanna, aiming to attract fans of the original shows. However, the movie feels more like a YouTube fan film than a standalone work, with shaky visual effects and a heavy dose of cheesiness.

The story revolves around Erik Reed (Frank), a treasure hunter turned pariah who is believed to be dead after a battle known as Dark Day, which killed 1,263 innocent people. Despite this tragic backstory, his character remains shallow and broad, lacking the depth and complexity expected of a superhero figure. His powers, derived from a crystal, enable him to fly, but the movie's execution fails to capitalize on this potential.

The film's action sequences are poorly executed, with fight scenes feeling stiff and unimpressive, further hindered by shaky camera work that obscures the choreography. The dialogue is stilted and repetitive, with excessive flashbacks and exposition scenes that drag the story down. The film's attempt to create a sense of chaos with a hologram character named King Bach as a hologram fails to inject any genuine humor or fun.

Despite featuring a talented cast, the movie falls short of its potential, failing to deliver a thrilling or engaging experience. The film's attempts to pay homage to its predecessors and showcase its ensemble feel more like a disjointed, forgettable misfire rather than a legendary work of cinema.
