Korea's esports national team shares ambitions ahead of Asian Games

The Korean national esports team has expressed their ambitions ahead of the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which will be held in Japan from September 19th. This year marks the second time esports will be an official medal sport at the Asian Games, following its debut at the 2018 Games in Jakarta. Korea will send a team of 44 individuals, comprising 36 athletes, to participate in nine out of the 11 esports disciplines.

This significant increase in the number of athletes and events, compared to the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, highlights the growing prominence of esports in the country.

One of the team's most notable members is Lee Sang-hyeok, widely known as Faker in the esports community. Faker will be aiming for his second gold medal in the League of Legends (LoL) category as part of the national team. The South Korean public has expressed high expectations for the esports category, and Faker expressed his commitment to fulfilling those hopes.

He conveyed his desire to bring pride and honor back to the nation through his performance. Faker emphasized his excitement for the competition, stating that he feels more motivated than stressed ahead of the event. His ultimate goal is to give his best effort in his role to ensure the team's success.
