Jayasuriya reprimanded for hitting boundary wedges with bat after dismissal

Prabath Jayasuriya, a Sri Lankan cricketer, has been given a formal warning and a demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record for striking the boundary wedges with his bat after being dismissed during the second day of Sri Lanka's ongoing second Test match against India in Colombo. This is Jayasuriya's first demerit point in the past 24 months.

The offense is a violation of Level 1 of the International Cricket Council's code of conduct for players and player support personnel, which pertains to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match." The incident occurred when Jayasuriya, the nightwatchman batting at No. 3, was returning to the pavilion after being dismissed lbw by Manav Suthar, who bowled the final ball of the day's play.

The broadcast also showed Jayasuriya throwing his gloves in the dressing room. This marks the third player to receive the match referee's attention during the Colombo Test, following Yashaswi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando, who were fined 25% of their match fees and had demerit points added to their records for "inappropriate physical contact" after an altercation on the first day.
